Bob Willis' PiHR Technology Handbook for Circuit Board Assembly Process Available for Free Download
Monday, April 02, 2012 | I-Connect007

BR Publishing announced today the immediate availability of PiHR Technology: An Engineer’s Guide to Design, Assembly and Reflow of Through Hole Components by industry training legend Bob Willis. In the book, Willis offers a logical and easy-to-follow guide for designing a successful PiHR product. Most importantly, invaluable pictures, illustrations, and notes are offered to document the entire process.

Surface Technology International’s Project Engineer, and Chairman of the SMART Group Technical Committee, Sue Knight says, “Once again Bob has managed to write a guide which gives a good basic overview of the subject, whilst still providing the depth of information to allow those of us who’ve been using PiHR successfully for years to nod sagely in agreement at the nuances and still learn a few new tricks to try in the process. It’s an excellent book for those embarking on PiHR as a new process, but can also be used as a reference manual for more established users.”

“Reading [the book] brought back memories of our first involvement with PiHR, providing the PCBs for the author’s Harting live demo in Germany in conjunction with Assembléon. I particularly liked the troubleshooting sections, which gave first-class practical advice and, as usual, excellent photographs depicting all the potential problems. Overall, an excellent read for the experienced, education for the beginner, and a first class reference book covering all aspects of PiHR,” comments Dennis Price, business development director of Merlin Circuit Technology Ltd.

I-Connect007’s resident technical expert and Editor Pete Starkey sums up the guide this way: “This book is the definitive complete and comprehensive guide to pin-in-hole reflow technology. It will become the industry-standard textbook.”

Willis currently operates a training and consultancy business in England and has created one of the largest collections of conventional and interactive training material in the industry. Although a specialist for companies implementing lead-free manufacture, Willis has provided worldwide consultancy in most areas of electronic manufacture over the last 25 years.

Throughout his long career, Willis has run pin-in-hole reflow production lines on site and at major international exhibitions, such as productronica, NEPCON and SMARTEX. He created one of the first advanced courses in PiHR and was the driving force behind the first video, interactive CD ROM, and inspection standards on the subject.

Thanks to generous sponsors Cookson Electronics, ECD, Indium Corporation, Nordson Dage and Samtec, this soon-to-become indispensable book is available to the industry free of charge.
